Ghostwriting Submission Guidelines

  • Proposals for ghostwriting services can be on any topic. They do not need to focus on sports.

  • Ghostwriting services are for you if you have an idea for a story but would like a professional writer to write it.

  • If you want to write your own story but need assistance starting, continuing, editing and/or finishing a manuscript, consider submitting it for our developmental editing services.

  • Submit a proposal that describes your story idea. Include the following information:

    • A summary of the project/story. Include the genre (novel, memoir, etc.), purpose, and intended audience

    • What information or resources, if any, that you already have

    • If you have already started a draft; if so, how many words have you written?

    • Estimated length/word count

    • A due date, if you have one, or let us know if you’re flexible

  • If your proposal is accepted for ghostwriting services, you will work with a professional writer, who will write the story based on interviews, other resource materials, and the specifications in the storyteller’s proposal. You are then free to publish or use the final product in any way you wish using your own name.

  • You are welcome to submit completed projects related to Sports Stories’ mission to Sport Stories Press for publication consideration, but using our ghostwriting service does not guarantee acceptance for publication.

  • Unfortunately, we are unable to work with every query we receive. This means we may need to turn down high-quality, creative, and innovative ideas.

Ghostwriting Services Include:

  • A free 30-minute project consultation to ensure a proper fit between you and the professional writer.

  • A custom contract that includes other terms, including a timeline for project completion based on the information in your proposal and your 30-minute project consultation.

  • Up to 8 hours of interviews:

    • If you already have drafts or resource material prepared, this can replace interview hours.

    • 2,000 words of your draft can replace 1 interview hour.

    • 2,000 words of your draft can be added for review and revision for $75.

  • An outline (if requested) and a sample chapter after the interviews to ensure the writer matches the tone, quality, perspective, and other requirements you’re expecting.

  • Two rounds of revisions with your input and feedback. You can choose to provide written feedback or have a 60-minute Zoom consultation.

  • A final, polished manuscript of 50,000 – 75,000 words
